I hate starting stories with once upon a time
It's far too cliche, it's more cheesy than a rhyme
What if I said we all loved underdogs?
We all loved a loser who was eventually on top?
We all loved an artist whose first album flopped
We like that fool who blew through that "Stop"
We loved that writer whose first novel couldn't drop
This urban myth will screw society
And raise the level of anxiety
Expunge us of variety
This wives tale should be put to rest
We all wanna be Kong pounding on our chest
Inhaling life's zest
How I detest those who attest
They have no shortcomings, they pass every test
We can all imagine this taboo
Although we may never want to
I think we're long overdue to say adieu
To irrationalities that always ensue
From out of the blue
Absurd occasions that we love to chew
And swallow, then look on till tomorrow
Then things turn bad and in pity we wallow
No more feeling sorry for our self-inflicted traps
Stuffed in a cocoon that we ourselves wrapped
Only got a tad remorse that you got off course
You can scream till your voice is hoarse
But when it falls on deaf ears it's no driving force
