It's commendable that Taylor Swift is proficient at the guitar and writes her own songs but do her songs have any profundity to them? Not by a long shot. She has songs about frivolous fluff such as boys not calling her, fairytales, and pining for the guy next door. Highly cliche. Stereotypical. The puffery encompassing her is sickening. And all of her songs sound the same too. What is her ambition here? To create a children's record? She's practically the female version of Raffi. Don't get me wrong she seems like an exceedingly sweet and precious girl but she just vexes me. She's tedious, stale, and doesn't have that spark. She never does anything outrageous and never rattles the cage. Lady GaGa, Kanye West, Ke$ha, are all controversial, and much buzzed about with good reason. They wear one-of-a-kind pieces of clothing, coin phrases such as "Rah ah ah ah ah ah", have signature styles such as bright color paint around their eyes, meat dresses, shutter shades, hair bowties, and the like. You could dress up as them for Halloween and everyone will know instantly who the hell you are.
Taylor, you're an artist, get out of your shell! It's admirable that she went about "naming names" on "Speak Now" and is very bold in that aspect, but she needs to shake it up a bit. Add some pizzazz to your character, your show, your music. Switch it up! Artists are supposed to be eccentric and push boundaries and be misunderstood and make others think "What the FUCK?" and just think PERIOD.
Kanye is a genius. His intellect is hard to miss. The issues he covers range from God to poverty to materialism to life in the spotlight, being incessantly hounded by the paparazzi. He is absurdly articulate and thoughtful and knows his shit. He is very worldly. He is one of the best rappers who ever lived. Him, Eminem and Tupac. No one else has anything on them. They rap about real life experiences.
Kanye made one mistake in a drunken stupor (who could blame him though?) and Taylor is made out to be fucking Bambi. As Kathy Griffin said, that moment was the best thing that could have ever happened to Taylor's career. She now has a get out of jail free card for the rest of her life.
Kanye is no villain. It's pathetic people are still on his case about this incident...it was well over a year ago, folks, calm down and move on! Yeah it was douchey but he knows he did wrong. He's not THAT much of an egomaniac. Listen to the self-deprecating "Runaway" and you'll be able to comprehend what I'm stressing here.
At least he speaks his mind and doesn't cower. He is opinionated, sometimes out of line, and strong-willed, but that is all a good thing. I'd much rather be highly controversial and frowned upon and have my own opinions and always spew them out as opposed to being a sitting duck with my lips sealed shut, ambivalent and far too immersed in nonsensical fear to open my mouth and say something, not giving a fuck what anyone's potential negative response may be.
