i want to be an olde style writer. with romantic stylistic traits. Not obsolete, but old fashioned in terms of what is classic. I want to eventually epitomize what Margaret Mitchell did with GWTW, Catcher had, Jane Austen did, all those masterpieces---there’s something operatic, biblical, just classic about all of those. All very different, but one thing is for certain---there’s so much trash these days---Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, "airport books" (Okay Sparks' The Notebook was a fabulous book, I balled, it was achingly poignant, but Jodi Picoult is what you called bullshit fluff formulaic bullshit.) nevertheless, there is quality contemporary literature, it's true, but mostly trash. the bar has been set so damn low. Twilight, twilight rip-offs and airport books pollute our world.
where are our new hemingways for the new millienium?
You don’t get stuff like Margaret Mitchell these days.
