<---bette.
i see a little bit of myself in each and every of the l word main characters.
that's NOT me saying that all lesbians are alike i'm merely stating why this show resonates so well with me. it's not just the lesbian aspect. it's far more than that. saying it strikes a chord with me would be an understatement.
me in bette porter (jennifer beals): bette is one sexy bitch. she is a dominatrix type woman, which i will always find irresistible. i see myself in her bette because she is very opinionated and at times is so wrapped up in herself that she can't even see two feet in front of herself. somewhat self-centered, even though she means well. very preoccupied with herself. stressed and anxious easily. but is very unpredictable at times, will do the most amusing things that are unbeknownst to her.
me in tina kennard (laurel holloman): tina can be very amusing when she least expects it like bette. she evolves more than anyone else on the show i think. she used to be very passive but grows into a very strong woman who does not take shit from anyone. she's not afraid to make changes in her life and is willing to go through shit because she knows she will resurface having a clearer picture of what she wants out of life. bette put her through some shit, and she put bette through a lot of shit as well, but tina always held her own. she is a very autonomous woman.
me in alice piezecki (leisha hailey): this is an absurdly easy one...alice has a FANTASTIC sense of humor like me. she is hysterical. she has some of the best lines of the show. alice also talks WAY too much, falls way too hard for girls, can be obsessive, and can be quite a gossip.
me in jenny schecter (mia kirshner): this is yet another easy one. jenny is a dark and tortured and haunted writer. jingle a bell? yes of course. although my "torture" is incomparable to jenny's, i subconsciously impose it on myself in order to improve the quality of my writing, to make it more brooding, twisted and add more profundity to it. jenny's imagination is absolutely wild. she is brilliant. she is not exactly a chipper girl, but when she is in a fabulous mood, she is quite the character. she can be very humorous when she's not a psycho bitch. her way with words is apparent throughout the entire show. she becomes a brilliantly successful writer and goes off on a bit of a power trip, but nevertheless, she writes to free herself.
me in shane mccutcheon (katherine moennig): shane is an unreservedly loyal friend to everyone and fucks up a lot, but knows when she does and will admit it. she always stays true to herself. is hard on the outside, but a softie at heart. can be very sensitive and sentimental. has a tendency to screw up a lot, though, but learns through her failures very much so.
me in kit porter (pam grier): kit has fucked up in the past A LOT...for instance, with her drinking and drugs problem but has completely turned her life around and has a wildly successful singing career under her belt and is the owner of an incredibly successful business. kit has a temper problem sometimes though. she is hysterical though. she always says what she wants and doesn't give a shit what others will think about it. very lovable despite all of her flaws and fucking up.
me in dana fairbanks (erin daniels): dana is sweet and cares so much for people. she is very brave when she came out to her parents, as i feel i was. dana can be shy and awkward when you first meet her though, but she is truly far from it. she is such a fun-loving person---when they killed her off the show, i balled my eyes out for seemingly ages. worst decision in television history.
me in helena peabody (rachel shelley): helena is exceptionally confident and believes in herself and was kind of a stuck-up, aristocratic bitch from old money in the beginning but became so modest, obscenely generous and more grounded, humble and sensible. truly evolved. helena also is hysterical. she will never admit it but she is incompetent at a lot of things and is mind-boggled and stressed often. one of her best lines in her hot british accent: "FUCKING DISASTA'! I'M EITHER OVERQUALIFIED OR HAVE NO SKILLS WHATSOEVER!" has as much trouble as i have had trying to find a job.
me in carmen de la pica morales (sarah shahi): carmen tells it like it is. when she wants something, she goes for it, not caring about the consequences. she doesn't fuck around. she doesn't believe in regrets.
